Welcome to Newburgh Priory
Nestled near the village of Coxwold, on the edge of the Howardian Hills, Newburgh Priory was founded in 1145. On the site of an Augustianian priory, the house today is still the family home of Sir George & Lady Wombwell and their children.
During your visit you can explore a water garden, hand crafted topiary, a
walled garden, woodland walks and in the wider parkland, a large lake. With
breathtaking views towards the White Horse of Kilburn in the distance, the
gardens make for an ideal photo spot.
Refuel in the charming Old Priory Kitchen Tearoom with drinks and
home-baked cakes or enjoy sitting outside amongst the ivy in our
Long Gallery ruins.
Unique in character and charm the House & Grounds are steeped in history, with an intriguing past and links to Oliver Cromwell - the highly-debated English military & politician.
The House & Grounds can be visited during April, May and June when we open for select Exclusive Access Open Days. To plan your visit see our opening times here.
The Priory House & Grounds are also available for exclusive hire for Wedding & Events, with three magnificent state rooms available for civil ceremonies. Find out more about Weddings at Newburgh Priory here.
The wider Estate at Newburgh Priory incorporates a range of agricultural,
residential & commercial property in over 6,000 acres with large tracts of
woodland and a pheasant shoot. It continues to evolve and diversify,
preserving the past whilst managing the present to build for the future.
We look forward to welcoming you to share the
beauty and charm of Newburgh Priory.
